Larian Studios, the acclaimed developer behind Baldur's Gate 3, has officially announced its next major RPG project: a new entry in the beloved Divinity series. The reveal came during The Game Awards 2025 with a striking trailer that showcased a dark and visceral tone, hinting at the game's mature themes and expansive world.
The trailer presented at The Game Awards 2025 offered a disturbing look at the game's world. It began with a harrowing depiction of a tortured prisoner, which then transitioned to a seemingly celebratory scene that culminated in the prisoner being burned alive. As the flames consumed him, his skin gave way to reveal acidic blood that spawned horrific, root-like flowers, and his back erupted in a volcanic display of blood. This imagery strongly suggests a departure into darker, more unsettling territory for the series.
Geoff Keighley, host of The Game Awards, described the new Divinity title as "even larger than Baldur's Gate 3" and Larian's "biggest game ever." This statement, coupled with the promise of "more breadth and depth than ever before," indicates a significant leap in scope and ambition for the studio. The game is simply referred to as "Divinity," suggesting a potential reboot or a new direction for the franchise, moving away from the "Original Sin" naming convention.
This announcement follows recent speculation and rumors, with Larian publishing chief Michael Douse having previously downplayed expectations of a "new Divinity Original Sin 3 game" reveal. In retrospect, his comments now seem like a deliberate misdirection, confirming that the mysterious Game Awards statue was indeed teasing a new Divinity installment. While details regarding platforms and a release date remain scarce, the confirmation of a new, massive Divinity RPG has undoubtedly ignited excitement within the RPG community.
