Grounded, a Detroit-based company known for its innovative electric vehicles, has announced the new C1 model—an adaptable vehicle platform intended for government, healthcare, and emergency response organizations. This development follows Grounded’s debut of an electric RV in 2023 and comes as the company seeks to meet the evolving needs of fleets serving public safety and welfare.
The Grounded C1 is based on Harbinger’s commercial-grade electric truck platform and can be configured in three distinct layouts: mobile command center, healthcare clinic, and disaster response unit. Each setup features unique interior modifications aimed at supporting specific operational needs.
The mobile command center is designed for police and emergency coordination, offering secure communications, reliable onboard power, and the mobility necessary for managing large events or major incidents. The interior includes workstations, a range of digital displays, flexible seating, and private compartments, including a bathroom.
The healthcare configuration transforms the C1 into a mobile clinic, allowing municipalities and nonprofits to deliver essential medical services such as mammograms, vaccinations, and screenings directly to communities. Features include a reception area, examination space equipped with medical tools, and restroom facilities.
For disaster response, the C1 comes equipped to support emergency relief during crises. The modular interior offers adaptability for tasks such as shelter management and supply distribution, with extended off-grid power capabilities to ensure support even in challenging conditions.
Grounded’s C1 will be available with both fully electric and plug-in hybrid drivetrains. The electric model can be enhanced by a gas-powered range extender, a roof-mounted solar panel, and a dedicated auxiliary battery. While precise specifications are pending, Harbinger's platform provides up to 440 horsepower and 1,140 lb-ft of torque, with battery packs modularly scalable in 35 kWh increments. The plug-in hybrid version aims for a range of around 500 miles, including 150 miles of pure electric driving.
The C1 is offered in Core, Advanced, and Pro trim levels. Core focuses on cost efficiency, while Advanced and Pro bring upgraded communications equipment and greater range. Multiple wheelbase lengths allow further customization.
Grounded has opened order books for the C1, with deliveries set to begin in the second quarter of 2026. Pricing remains flexible, based on configuration and level of equipment. This new vehicle appears poised to offer critical support for agencies looking to modernize their mobile operations with sustainable technology.
