Nissan has announced updates for the 2027 Z sports car, addressing enthusiast feedback by introducing a six-speed manual transmission for the top-tier Nismo model. The facelifted lineup, set to debut at the New York Auto Show, also receives targeted performance enhancements and cosmetic revisions across all trims.
The most significant change for 2027 is the availability of a six-speed manual gearbox specifically engineered for the Z Nismo. This transmission features an upgraded clutch and a revised shift lever ratio, resulting in a shorter, more direct shifting action. To complement the manual gearbox, the Nismo's twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine receives unique tuning for a more aggressive throttle response. The car's Active Sound Enhancement and Active Noise Cancellation systems have also been retuned to enhance the engine note in Sport mode.
Beyond the new transmission, the Nismo model benefits from braking and handling improvements. It adopts new front brakes with two-piece iron-aluminum rotors derived from the GT-R, reducing weight by 19 pounds and improving cooling for track use. The suspension has been retuned, and the steering rack's internal friction was reduced by 20 percent to provide a more fluid feel during cornering, requiring fewer small corrections from the driver. The Nismo's engine output remains at 420 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque.
The standard Z Sport and Performance models also see functional updates. The front end features a restyled bumper and grille, a change designed to improve airflow while reducing aerodynamic lift and drag. A redesigned fuel tank has been implemented to ensure a consistent fuel supply to the engine during high-G cornering maneuvers. The Z Performance trim is now equipped with larger diameter shock absorbers to improve vibration dampening, contributing to a smoother ride and more predictable handling. Power for these models holds at 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque.
Interior changes are modest. The Performance and Nismo trims now include a Qi2 wireless charger, which supports 15-watt magnetic charging for compatible smartphones. A new tan upholstery option is available for the Performance model. Externally, a new Shinkai Green Pearl Metallic paint is offered on Sport and Performance trims, and the front nose badge is now a classic "Z" logo. The six-speed manual is now the standard transmission for all Z models, with a nine-speed automatic available as an option. Pricing details are expected closer to the summer launch.
