Lucid has finally addressed a significant request from its customers by rolling out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support for its Gravity SUV. This highly anticipated feature is being delivered via an over-the-air (OTA) software update, enhancing the in-car technology experience for owners.
Lucid, known for its advanced in-house infotainment systems, has now integrated the widely popular smartphone mirroring technologies into the Gravity. This update allows drivers to seamlessly connect their iPhones or Android devices to access familiar navigation apps, music streaming services, messaging, and other essential applications directly through the vehicle's central display. Both wireless and wired connection options are supported, offering flexibility for users.
The rollout of this feature has commenced in North America, with Lucid planning to extend availability to other global markets shortly thereafter. This move is expected to significantly enhance the user experience and convenience for Gravity owners, aligning the luxury electric SUV with a standard feature found in many contemporary vehicles.
The addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto has been a persistent request from Lucid customers. Emad Dlala, SVP of Engineering and Software at Lucid, acknowledged the demand, stating, "Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are two of the most sought-after features by our customers. We are now providing a seamless connection between mobile devices and the Lucid Gravity. We’re excited to introduce these features to Lucid Gravity, which now offers even greater comfort and convenience for owners."
Moving forward, all newly manufactured Lucid Gravity models will come equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. This update also extends to existing Gravity owners, who can receive the functionality through the OTA update, reinforcing Lucid's commitment to enhancing its vehicles through software. The company emphasizes that over 95 percent of the vehicle's functions can be refined or expanded via OTA updates, allowing for continuous improvement and added value without requiring hardware modifications.
