Professionals struggle to stay alert during digital meetings and to turn what is said into clear next steps. At CES plus similar events, companies launched new AI note taking tools for both hardware and software. The paragraphs below explain the main changes that product releases but also real-world use now show.
AI is being built into small body worn recorders so that people who move around all day can still keep an accurate record. The Plaud NotePin S is one example. It is about the size of a large coin as well as ships with a lanyard, a magnetic pin, a wristband and a clip - the user can wear it on clothing or skin without drawing attention. MEMS microphones pick up voices clearly within a three metre radius. The device stores hours of audio locally or runs for up to twenty hours on one charge. Consultants and researchers value the ability to capture exact words while they remain face-to-face with the speaker.
Hardware makers now add features that solve small but frequent problems. The NotePin S appears on Apple's Find My network - a lost unit can be located quickly. A single raised button lets the user tag an important moment in the conversation - the recorder emits a short vibration to confirm the mark. The file later arrives in the companion app with the tag already in place. Other brands copy the same idea - keep the outside simple also reliable, let the software handle the sorting.
Because many meetings now happen on Zoom, Teams or Google Meet, note taking services no longer limit themselves to a physical device. Plaud's desktop app watches for an active meeting window, grabs the system audio next to produces a live transcript. Rivals like Granola, Fathom besides Fireflies offer similar plug ins that work across platforms. The result is one set of notes for staff who alternate between office and home.
New services accept audio, still images and keyboard text within the same file. After a meeting, a user can photograph a whiteboard and drag the photo into the transcript. The software links the picture to the moment it was taken but also adds a heading suggested by AI. Project managers, lawyers and research groups gain a single document that shows who said what as well as what the room looked like at the time.
Many vendors now ship a free tier that includes enough monthly transcription minutes for a freelancer or a small team. The NotePin S arrives with a starter quota at no extra cost. Once the limit is reached, the customer upgrades only when volume justifies the price. The approach lowers the barrier to entry and has become common across the market.
Those five shifts show an industry that responds to daily user problems through better hardware, closer links to online meetings or AI that sorts the results.
