Palo Alto-based 1X Technologies has revealed its latest product, the Neo. The company describes Neo as the first humanoid robot offered to the public that is built to help with a wide range of household chores, a step that could expand home automation.

A Step Past Today's Automation

Robotic vacuums and similar devices are now common - yet Neo differs in both shape and purpose. It is not limited to one job - its human like body hints at wider uses. The main technical change is its two legs plus two arms, which should let it work in spaces laid out for people - it opens doors, lifts items and walks through rooms in ways that robots on wheels or fixed bases cannot.

The shift is from machines that do only one chore to a single platform that performs many. Full test results and exact numbers are still expected - yet the arrival of a humanoid robot aimed at household buyers is already significant. If the product works as promised, it will alter how people treat housework bringing flexible, multi task helpers into daily home life.
