Early information about Sony's next wireless earbuds, the WF-1000XM6, has begun to appear online. The details show a clear change in shape and a set of new functions.
Photographs from an early retail page on Power Buy, posted by a Reddit member and later on X, reveal an outline that differs from the WF-1000XM5. The new buds look thinner and less rounded. The case also changes - it becomes a flat, rectangular block that resembles a shortened Zippo lighter, instead of the previous bulb shaped capsule. The surface finish switches from glossy to matte plastic. Colours shown are light grey white but also black.
Aside from the new shape, each earbud is expected to carry four microphones instead of three. The extra microphone should deliver cleaner voice calls and supply more data for the noise cancellation system, especially for the adaptive mode that reacts to surrounding noise in real time.
FCC documents spotted by TheWalkmanBlog point to the inclusion of Digital Sound Enhancement Engine Ultimate. This software uses artificial intelligence to rebuild detail in compressed music files - listeners hear higher quality even when the source is a standard stream. The Thai listing priced the set at 11,990 baht, about $380 USD but earlier leaks point to a $320 tag for the United States. Sony has not confirmed the date but the volume of data now public indicates that the WF-1000XM6 should arrive soon.
