If you want stronger muscles and quicker recovery, two supplements stand out - creatine and protein. Each has a separate job in the body plus in sport. Creatine gives fast energy for short, hard efforts. Protein supplies the material that rebuilds tissue. Know what each one does so you pick the one that matches your aim.
Creatine sits in muscle and rebuilds ATP, the immediate fuel for a five second burst. More creatine means ATP reloads faster - you squeeze out an extra rep or sprint. Extra reps add strength as well as size. Creatine also signals the cell to start protein production. The liver makes about one gram a day - red meat or fish give one to two grams per serving - a scoop of powder gives five grams.
Muscles, enzymes, antibodies and many hormones are built from amino acids. After exercise damaged fibres need those amino acids to patch the tears. Protein also slows stomach emptying, which blunts hunger or helps weight control. Adults need around 0.8 g per kilo of body-weight - lifters often raise that to 1.2 - 2 g. Take 3 - 5 g of creatine monohydrate once a day - a week long loading phase of 20 g split into four doses is optional. Timing is flexible - yet many drop it into the post workout shake. For protein spread intake across meals. Hit 20 - 25 g within two hours after training to spike muscle repair. A shake and creatine in the same bottle covers both bases.
Five grams of creatine rarely causes trouble - a few users retain water or feel bloated. Protein at very high levels taxes diseased kidneys but not healthy ones. Keep overall calories, fibre also fluids in check. Use powders to fill gaps, not to replace food. Ask a physician or dietitian before you begin any new product.
