Side quests in The Outer Worlds 2 are not diversions - they form the backbone of the trip. They pay in gear coins and scraps of lore. One job “Diabolical Drones of Doom,” trips people up because drones vanish or the quest vanishes from the log. A straight plan keeps you from losing the reward.
The job hides at first as a single line in your journal after you pass two troopers who gripe about metal pests. To open the full entry, talk to Corporate Trooper Coetze in town - he posts a bounty on the machines. If you skip the chat, walk to the steel Bounty Terminal outside Fairfield Jail and press the button - the map flag drops the same moment.
The flag lands on a shore power plant. When you set foot on the grounds, Protectorate Wasp drones rise plus shoot. Only the drones inside the fenced base yard raise the counter - those on the road do not. Many report that the drones stop respawning and the tally freezes. The freeze appears linked to starting the fight from stealth. Quit, reload often restores the spawns.
If you favour brains over bullets, slip into the plant and locate a wall panel in the rear corridor. With Engineering 2, Manual Reset or Electro-Therapist you shut the swarm down for good. Wipe out - or switch off - the last drone, hike back to the Fairfield Bounty Terminal but also collect - a bump in Auntie's Choice standing, 360 experience, one Advanced Decryption Key and a 350 Bit Cartridge.
Act fast. A later story vote between Fairfield besides Westport locks the whole region. Once the lock clicks, every local bounty quest disappears for good. Clear Fairfield's list before you advance the main plot or you forfeit the haul.
