Hyundai has introduced a captivating camper concept based on its Staria Electric van at the CMT Show. This innovative vehicle is designed to explore the potential of a premium recreational vehicle tailored for the European market, featuring amenities for off-grid adventures. While currently a concept, Hyundai is actively gauging public interest for a potential production model.

Key Takeaways

Designed for Off-Grid Exploration

The Staria Camper concept boasts a retractable canopy and a power pop-up roof, seamlessly integrated to minimize wind noise during travel. The roof is topped with a 520W solar panel capable of generating up to 2.6 kWh of electricity daily, powering onboard systems or extending the vehicle's range.

Privacy and comfort are enhanced with electronically controlled smart glass for the rear windows, adjustable via a touchscreen. This smart glass offers superior UV, thermal, and acoustic insulation compared to conventional glass, though traditional curtains are also included.

Modular Interior Comfort

Inside, the second and third-row seats fold flat to create a sleeping area for two adults. A long counter houses a sink, storage, and a 36-liter refrigerator. A folding interior table, a stylish pegboard, and specialized lighting further enhance the living space. The concept also features a swiveling front passenger seat and a climate control system for year-round comfort.

The rear liftgate opens to reveal a deployable rear table and an outdoor shower setup, perfect for enjoying the outdoors.

The Road to Production?

Hyundai is actively seeking feedback from camping, caravan, and adventure enthusiasts across Europe and beyond to assess interest in a production version. If it moves forward, the production model would likely mirror the Staria Electric's specifications, including an 84 kWh battery, a 215 hp front-mounted motor, and a WLTP range of approximately 249 miles. Fast charging capabilities would allow an 80% charge in about 20 minutes.
