The 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC stands out as a supercharged, high-performance model that bridges the gap between the regular Mustang Dark Horse and the top-tier Mustang GTD. Under the hood, it is powered by a 5.2-liter V8 engine equipped with an Eaton TVS R2650 supercharger. This is the same hardware that powered the previous-generation Shelby GT500. While Ford has not disclosed the exact horsepower figure, it is expected to fall between 760 and 815 horsepower. The car includes a Tremec seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, carbon-fiber driveshaft, and a Torsen limited-slip differential for efficient power delivery to the rear wheels.
A host of chassis upgrades distinguish the Dark Horse SC from its naturally aspirated sibling, the standard Dark Horse. These include standard MagneRide adaptive dampers, stiffer springs, reinforced anti-roll bars, magnesium strut tower brace, and forged aluminum suspension components that replace steel parts. The car rides on wider Pirelli P Zero R tires, 305mm at the front and 315mm at the rear, and features upgraded Brembo brakes with six-piston front calipers. The optional Track package further enhances performance, offering carbon-ceramic brake rotors, lighter carbon-fiber wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, and more aggressive aerodynamics for up to 620 pounds of downforce at 180 mph.
From a market perspective, the Dark Horse SC essentially continues the legacy of the Shelby GT500 without the Shelby badge. Compared to the now-discontinued Chevrolet Camaro and the Dodge Challenger, the Mustang Dark Horse SC now serves as the flagbearer in the Detroit muscle car segment. It offers performance and equipment that rival more expensive sports cars like the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, especially when equipped with the optional Track package. By blending traditional V8 muscle with modern handling upgrades, it caters to both muscle car purists and sports car fans.
Visually, the Dark Horse SC adopts unique styling cues to set it apart, including a distinct aluminum hood, aggressive front grilles for better cooling, and a large heat extractor. The rear features a duckbill spoiler that improves aerodynamic efficiency. Inside, customers will notice matte carbon-fiber trim and a flat-bottom steering wheel borrowed from the GTD. Optional packages add further personalization, such as the Teal Accent package inspired by historic Mustang models and the Carbon Exterior package with carbon-fiber fascia and mirror caps. Practicality comes in the form of track-ready cooling, substantial braking performance, and Recaro sport seats in the interior.
With orders beginning in spring 2026, the Mustang Dark Horse SC stands as a fusion of muscle car power and modern engineering, ready to extend Ford's legacy in high-performance vehicles.
