The Renault Filante is a new flagship SUV launched by Renault, designed for car buyers seeking size, sophistication, and advanced technology. Aimed primarily at markets outside Europe, the Filante blends French design with modern Chinese automotive engineering, placing it among the segment’s premium choices.
The Filante features a self-charging hybrid powertrain delivering 247 horsepower and 565 Nm of torque. Its hybrid system combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.64 kWh battery, managed by a three-speed DHT Pro automatic gearbox. This setup allows for strong acceleration and improved fuel efficiency, meeting current trends for hybrid-only power in premium SUVs.
On the exterior, the Filante features bold styling, a modern LED lighting package, and an aerodynamic, elongated profile. At 4,915 mm in length with a 2,820 mm wheelbase, it exceeds the size of Renault’s other models. The signature star badge references Renault’s luxury history, while the overall appearance targets buyers who want both presence and sophistication.
Inside, the SUV sets itself apart with three 12.3-inch displays forming the “OpenR Panorama Screen,” plus a large 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display. Premium materials, spacious seating, a 654-liter cargo area, hi-fi audio options, and features like a panoramic sunroof deliver comfort and utility.
The Filante competes in the E-segment, sharing its footprint and features with models like the Volvo XC90, Genesis GV80, Lexus RX, Audi Q7, BMW X5, and Mercedes GLE. However, its use of the Geely CMA platform connects it with Volvo, Polestar, and Lynk & Co. models. While others in the segment offer diverse engine options—including plug-in hybrids and full electrics—the Filante is exclusively self-charging hybrid.
Renault’s strategy reserves the Filante for South Korea, South America, and certain Gulf states. Europe is excluded due to already saturated SUV offerings, with the Rafale coupe-SUV remaining Renault’s European flagship. The decision also reflects different consumer preferences and market demands across regions.
The Filante signals Renault’s push into the global premium SUV segment, collaborating with Geely for platform and technology access. The shift to hybrid-only formats and tech-rich interiors mirrors where the industry is heading—toward cleaner powertrains, digital dashboards, and increased cabin comfort. The Filante represents Renault’s capability to compete worldwide, even as it bypasses its home continent.
