The facelifted 2026 Peugeot 408 debuts with a refined and sportier exterior. The main changes include split lighting at the front, featuring an upper section with three distinctive daytime running light “claws” that also work as animated turn signals. The headlights now sit almost invisible, blended seamlessly with gloss black accents. Higher-end versions have an illuminated Lion logo, which now hides a radar sensor for a sleeker look. At the rear, the car introduces illuminated “Peugeot” lettering—the first in the brand’s history—and refreshed black accents and tail lights. Updated wheel designs range from 17- to 20-inches, with the color palette offering a new Flare Green that shifts hue with lighting.
The 2026 Peugeot 408 is available with hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric (E-408) powertrains. The E-408 utilizes a 58.2 kWh battery, delivering 210 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque, with a WLTP combined range of 283 miles. The plug-in hybrid combines a 178 hp petrol engine, 123 hp electric motor, and a 14.6 kWh battery for a total of 237 hp and up to 53 miles of electric-only driving. The standard hybrid uses a 143 hp petrol engine paired with a six-speed dual-clutch, offering low fuel consumption at 5.0 L/100 km (47 mpg US).
Peugeot has added practical new technology to the E-408. Notably, battery pre-conditioning helps improve charging efficiency in colder weather by pre-heating the battery. On the GT trim, this activates automatically when navigating to a charging station. The car now includes Plug & Charge functionality for easier public charging and Vehicle To Load (V2L), which allows the car to power devices up to 3.5 kW. A home charging safety feature now lets owners cap the charge at 80% to prolong battery lifespan.
Interior changes are subtle but modern. The new 10-inch digital instrument cluster features clearer, more informative graphics and is paired with a familiar 10-inch infotainment screen. There are also fresh upholstery and trim choices. These updates focus on enhanced digital clarity and a comfortable, premium feel.
The Peugeot 408 positions itself as a stylish alternative in the fastback crossover segment, directly competing with models such as the Renault Arkana and Citroën C5 X. Its range of electrified powertrains and advanced features like V2L and Plug & Charge set it apart from several rivals that may lack these digital conveniences. The design language, with distinctive lighting and badging, aims to attract buyers seeking a modern European look and improved sustainability.
Potential buyers should consider their daily driving needs, especially when choosing between hybrid and electric options. The E-408 offers lower running costs and a solid range for urban or suburban commutes, while the hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants provide flexibility for those needing longer range or easier refueling opportunities. With its updated technology and efficiency improvements, the 2026 Peugeot 408 stands as a compelling option for drivers seeking a blend of style, efficiency, and practical innovation.
