Test drivers have again been seen lapping a camouflaged 911 at the Nürburgring. The car has no tall rear wing and no big side scoops, signs that Porsche may be readying a quieter looking Touring version of the 911 Turbo S.
Eighteen months after the first photos, an almost unchanged 911 mule has returned to the track. The car still has no big side ducts that feed the twin turbo 3.6-litre flat-six - instead, the rear quarters look smooth. The front openings use horizontal slats rather than the vertical ones on the Turbo S - the nose appears more like a standard Carrera.
Behind the cabin, the test car carries a pop up rear wing like other 911 variants, not the fixed, high mounted blade of the Turbo S. The change matches the GT3 Touring approach - full performance without race car visuals. If the model reaches showrooms, it should keep the Turbo S drivetrain - a 3.6-litre flat six with two electric turbochargers rated at 701 hp and 590 lb ft of torque, enough to reach 60 mph in 2.4 s. Porsche must now cool that engine without the usual side scoops, a task the engineers have the tools to solve.
