The highly anticipated 2027 Chevrolet Silverado has been prematurely unveiled through leaked patent images, offering an early glimpse of the redesigned pickup truck. This evolutionary update promises a fresh aesthetic inspired by the Traverse, alongside significant powertrain enhancements, including potentially new V8 engines.
The design patent, credited to Tyler Moffett, showcases a Silverado that retains its familiar silhouette but incorporates a host of modern updates. The front fascia is particularly striking, featuring split lighting units and a prominent mesh grille with a long horizontal bar, reminiscent of the Chevrolet Traverse. A rugged front bumper, a noticeable sensor, and a pronounced air dam contribute to both the truck's aggressive stance and improved fuel efficiency.
Further back, the bodywork appears streamlined with stylized front fenders. The greenhouse remains familiar, complemented by an angular accent above the rear wheels. The rear end is subtle in its changes, featuring a cab-mounted spoiler and a small sliding rear window. Notably, the tailgate will swap the "CHEVROLET" lettering for a bowtie emblem. New taillights, vaguely echoing those of the Ford F-150 Lightning, are accompanied by a revamped bumper with wider, more practical steps. While details are scarce, an updated version of the Multi-Flex tailgate is expected.
While Chevrolet remains tight-lipped about the specifics, the company is investing heavily in its next-generation V8 engines. These new powerplants are anticipated to deliver enhanced performance, better fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions, thanks to "new combustion and thermal management innovations." The current 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8s are expected to be replaced. The 5.3-liter currently produces 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque, while the 6.2-liter offers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The rest of the engine lineup might include updated versions of the turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder and the 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six.
