Omoda will launch a new, smaller SUV. The target market is Europe, where the brand already sells well. The car will probably carry the name Omoda 2.
There are two main reasons. European buyers favour compact cars. In addition the firm left a gap in its range. The model that was to be the Omoda 3 grew in size after customer feedback and became the Omoda 4. That change left space below it for a smaller model.
Yes. Senior managers have stated the plan. Arturo Arino, design director at Chery International, confirmed that an Omoda 2 is on the way. Shawn Xu, global CEO of Omoda also said the firm is weighing a smaller car aimed at Europe.
CEO Shawn Xu says the needs differ sharply. Chinese buyers prefer large vehicles. Buyers in the UK besides France want small, stylish cars, especially younger drivers.
Omoda and its sister brand Jaecoo have sold strongly since their launch. By the end of September, the two brands had registered more cars in the UK than Citroën, Fiat or Lexus, even though they offer only a couple of models.
Omoda will add cars step by step, not all right away. After the current Omoda 5, the larger Omoda 7 family SUV will arrive. The Omoda 4 will follow. After that the smaller Omoda 2 will appear.
The plug in hybrid Omoda 7 should reach the UK in early 2026. The Omoda 4 is due about six months later. The smaller Omoda 2 is scheduled for 2027.
Safety comes first. Every small car that Omoda brings to Europe must earn a five star Euro NCAP rating.
