Chery, a car company from China, has shown a test car that works as multiple vehicles in one. The car is called the T1TP and the company calls it a “Transformable Multi-SUV.” It changes its shape so that one vehicle serves as a seven seat SUV, a twin cab pickup or a small camper. Chery says one such vehicle would meet almost every travel need a family has.
The shape changes come from a rear section and roof that detach plus swap. With every part in place, the T1TP is a big SUV that seats seven. Undo four latches and lift the rear module away - the vehicle becomes a pickup with a 600-liter load bed and fixed tie down loops. For weekends away, a “Camper Mode” package adds a roof tent that pops up, a side awning but also an external socket that runs camping gear.
The concept sits on a unibody shell, the same kind of shell used for ordinary SUVs rather than the separate frame found on most pickups. The vehicle is 4.9 meters long - it is large. Drive comes from Chery's “Super Hybrid” setup - a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine and an electric motor fed by a plug in battery. On one full tank of petrol and a full battery, the car is expected to cover 1,200 - 1,400 kilometers.
Work on the T1TP started in February 2024. Chery states that a production model derived from the concept will appear in 2026, first in China. It is still unknown how many of the detachable parts as well as camping items will reach the showroom. If even a few of those features reach buyers, the vehicle will give families a level of flexibility that today's SUVs and pickups do not offer.
