The new C8-generation Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport made an unannounced public appearance during a parade lap at the 12 Hours of Sebring event. This debut provided a first look at the model's design and specifications ahead of its official reveal scheduled for March 26.
The vehicle displayed features the same widebody construction as the Corvette Z06 and E-Ray models. It was presented in a traditional Admiral Blue paint scheme, complemented by a black racing stripe and red accents on the rear fenders. Key design elements include the Z06's centrally mounted four-pipe exhaust system, a newly designed front splitter, and a more pronounced rear lip spoiler. The front bumper's central section appears to be made of carbon fiber, distinguishing it from other Corvette variants. The car was fitted with black wheels and red brake calipers, echoing design cues from the previous C7 Grand Sport.
While official details remain under wraps until the formal announcement, industry information points to the Grand Sport being equipped with a new LS6 small-block V8 engine. This is expected to be a 6.7-liter naturally aspirated unit. A naturally aspirated engine draws in air without the aid of a turbocharger or supercharger, which often results in more immediate engine response. The powertrain is also anticipated to utilize both direct and port fuel injection—a dual system for delivering fuel that can optimize both power and efficiency. Power output is projected to be around 550 horsepower.
With an estimated 550 horsepower, the Grand Sport is positioned to fill the gap between the 495-horsepower Stingray and the 670-horsepower, track-focused Z06. This placement targets buyers seeking a significant performance upgrade from the base model without the full intensity of the Z06, a strategy that could make it the most popular model in the Corvette lineup. Furthermore, reports suggest a higher-performance Grand Sport X variant is also in development. This model may feature a hybrid all-wheel-drive system with a combined output of 721 horsepower, potentially serving as a successor to the current E-Ray hybrid.
