Xiaomi is gearing up to launch a high-performance variant of its electric SUV, the YU7 GT. Leaked information from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveals impressive specifications, including a staggering 990 horsepower and a CLTC-rated range of 438 miles. This sporty version of Xiaomi's crossover is poised to challenge established luxury electric SUVs.
The MIIT filings indicate that the YU7 GT will be equipped with a 101.7 kWh battery. Under China's CLTC testing cycle, this battery is projected to deliver a range of 438 miles (705 km). While CLTC ratings tend to be city-biased, this suggests a real-world range likely exceeding 300 miles. This battery capacity is similar to the YU7 Max, but the GT variant sacrifices some range for significantly more power.
The YU7 GT's headline feature is its immense power output of 990 horsepower, a substantial increase from the 690 horsepower found in the YU7 Max. This twin-motor setup positions the YU7 GT as a formidable competitor in the performance EV segment. While the SU7 Ultra, another Xiaomi model, boasts an even higher horsepower figure with a three-motor configuration, the YU7 GT's power is still remarkable for a production SUV.
Xiaomi has openly stated that its YU7 lineup benchmarks against luxury SUVs such as the Porsche Macan and Cayenne, as well as the Tesla Model Y. With nearly 1,000 horsepower, the YU7 GT significantly outperforms the Porsche Macan Turbo Electric's 630 horsepower, though it falls short of the Cayenne Turbo Electric's 1,139 horsepower. The sporty design, reminiscent of the Ferrari Purosangue, has been observed during testing, hinting at a focus on dynamic capabilities. The official debut of the YU7 GT is anticipated later this year.
