Italian restomod specialist Totem Automobili has presented its latest creation, the GT Electric ‘Zeal 01’. This vehicle, based on the timeless Alfa Romeo GT body, forgoes a traditional internal combustion engine in favor of a fully electric powertrain. Built for a client in California, the Zeal 01 demonstrates a modern approach to classic car ownership, delivering significant performance in a familiar shape.

Exterior and Interior Craftsmanship

Visually, the car maintains the iconic silhouette of the classic Alfa, but with bespoke details. The body is painted in a custom shade named Accurro Pervinca, a distinct blue. This is contrasted by numerous satin gold accents on the signature Scudetto grille, headlight surrounds, window frames, and side mirrors. The car sits on a set of matching alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin is completely re-trimmed with high-end materials. A combination of blue and cream Nappa leather covers the seats, dashboard, and door panels. Exposed carbon fiber with a unique weave adds a modern, lightweight touch, while the driver interacts with custom-made gauges and a classic three-spoke steering wheel.

Electric Powertrain and Performance Metrics

At the heart of the Zeal 01 is its electric powertrain. A single electric motor is mounted at the rear axle, delivering 590 horsepower directly to the wheels. This configuration enables the car to achieve an acceleration time of 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds. Unlike a gasoline-powered car, this performance is delivered silently and with instant torque. The vehicle is fitted with a battery pack that provides an estimated driving range of up to 300 miles (482 km), making it usable for more than just short trips.

Market Position and Technical Basis

The Zeal 01 is a 'restomod'—a term for a classic vehicle that has been restored ('resto') and simultaneously updated with modern components ('mod'). This project places Totem Automobili within a growing niche of companies electrifying iconic cars. While the firm also builds a version with a twin-turbo V6, the Zeal 01 caters to a different buyer, one who values silent, effortless speed. To ensure the chassis can handle the performance, the car is fitted with high-performance Brembo brakes for stopping power and an electronically controlled suspension system to manage ride quality and handling dynamics.

In summary, the Totem GT Electric ‘Zeal 01’ successfully merges classic Italian design with contemporary electric vehicle technology. It serves as a prime example of how vintage aesthetics can be preserved while embracing a modern performance standard. For a segment of the enthusiast market, this combination of silent speed and iconic style represents a compelling direction for the future of car collecting.
