Lincoln is preparing to fill a significant gap in its vehicle lineup with the return of the Corsair compact SUV. Following the model's production halt, which left the brand without its second best-selling vehicle, evidence suggests an updated version currently sold in China will be imported to the United States, likely arriving for the 2027 model year.
Recent spy photos of a camouflaged prototype undergoing testing in Europe reveal key details. The vehicle appears to be a US-specification model, indicated by the presence of amber marker lights. Exterior updates include a redesigned front grille with a more prominent mesh pattern, an illuminated light bar connecting the headlights, and a revised lower air intake. While the main body appears similar to the current Chinese version, camouflage on the rear suggests potential styling changes to the tailgate and taillights.
The cabin is expected to mirror the Chinese-market Corsair, which follows Lincoln's "Quiet Flight 2.0" design philosophy. This approach emphasizes a minimalist and technologically advanced environment. The centerpiece is a massive 27-inch panoramic display that spans across the dashboard, combining the central infotainment system and a screen for the front passenger. This is complemented by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver. Other interior features include a two-spoke steering wheel and a distinctive piano key-style gear selector.
For passenger comfort, the vehicle is anticipated to offer premium options such as semi-aniline leather front seats with heating, ventilation, massage functions, and 24-way power adjustment. Rear passengers may also get heated seats with reclining backrests. A 14-speaker Revel audio system is another likely feature.
Engine options for the US market will likely be drawn from the Chinese model. The primary offering is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque. This engine provides a balance of power for daily driving and highway cruising.
A hybrid variant is also a strong possibility. This version combines a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The main benefit of this system is improved fuel efficiency, with the Chinese model achieving approximately 43 miles per gallon.
The Corsair will re-enter the competitive entry-level luxury SUV segment. One point of consideration is its cargo capacity. The Chinese model offers 21 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, which expands to 48.5 cubic feet when folded. This is a reduction from the previous US-market Corsair's maximum of 57.6 cubic feet. This trade-off for new technology and styling may influence some buyers. The move to import the Corsair from China reflects a broader industry trend where automakers leverage global production to manage costs and fill specific market needs.
