An online listing on a BMW-affiliated website has inadvertently revealed details about the brand's upcoming 2027 model year lineup for the United States. The information points to significant additions, including an all-wheel drive version of the M2 coupe and an expansion of the company's electric vehicle offerings.
The most notable model in the leak is the first-ever M2 equipped with xDrive, BMW's all-wheel drive system. This technology distributes power to all four wheels, enhancing traction and stability, particularly in adverse weather conditions. The M2 xDrive is expected to use the existing 3.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine. Power output is projected to be around 473 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. The inclusion of the xDrive system likely means this variant will be offered exclusively with an automatic transmission, a common configuration for the brand's all-wheel drive performance models.
The leak also confirms a significant push into electric vehicles (EVs). The 3-Series family will see the introduction of an all-electric sedan, the i3. Two versions were listed: the i3 40 xDrive and the i3 50 xDrive. These models will feature a dual-motor setup, with one electric motor powering the front axle and another for the rear, creating an electric all-wheel drive system. The i3 50 xDrive is anticipated to produce approximately 463 horsepower.
This electric expansion extends to the SUV segment. The iX3, an electric counterpart to the X3, will be available in the US with rear-wheel drive (40 sDrive) and all-wheel drive (40 xDrive and 50 xDrive) options. A new iX4 crossover coupe and a high-performance iX5 60 xDrive, with an output expected to exceed 463 horsepower, were also mentioned.
Beyond the new M2 and EV models, the listing referenced updates to other key vehicles. A new M350 xDrive is set to replace the current M340i xDrive, indicating a performance-oriented gasoline option for the 3-Series. The 2027 X5 lineup will include a rear-wheel drive X5 40 sDrive alongside the powerful electric iX5. Finally, a facelift for the flagship 7-Series sedan was also noted in the leaked data.
This premature information provides a clear look at BMW's strategy, which focuses on broadening the appeal of its performance cars with all-wheel drive and accelerating its transition to a comprehensive electric vehicle portfolio across its most popular model lines.
