Lamborghini has taken its most hardcore SUV, the Urus Performante, to new extremes with a striking facelift and significant mechanical updates. The headline change is the introduction of a plug-in hybrid powertrain set to deliver even more power, but the added technology might tip the scales in unexpected ways.
Recent spy shots reveal that the facelifted Urus Performante features more aggressive styling. The refreshed front end sports larger air intakes and sharper design cues inspired by the Urus SE. The headlights trade their signature Y-pattern for fresh hairpin-shaped daytime running lights, adding a bold new look.
At the rear, Lamborghini introduces a subtle yet effective mini ducktail spoiler on the tailgate. While it doesn’t channel the extreme designs of the brand’s supercars, it certainly sharpens the SUV’s profile. The latest aerodynamic additions are expected to offer tangible benefits beyond aesthetics, potentially contributing to improved stability at high speeds.
The biggest mechanical upgrade comes from the Urus Performante adopting a plug-in hybrid setup, mirroring the recently introduced Urus SE. The system is anticipated to combine a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with an electric motor and a substantial 25.9 kWh battery pack.
With more power comes more mass. The hybrid technology, while boosting horsepower, also means the SUV will likely weigh 500 pounds more than before. Early estimates suggest the Performante’s curb weight could rise from 4,740 lbs (2,150 kg) to over 5,500 lbs (2,500 kg), closely matching the Urus SE.
This added weight could impact dynamic performance, especially under heavy braking and during rapid direction changes. Still, the electric assistance should offer sharper acceleration and improved real-world efficiency, balancing some of the downsides of a heavier package.
This evolution signals Lamborghini’s pivot toward electrification, even in its most performance-oriented models. While purists might lament the added weight and the shift away from traditional engine purity, the increase in capability and the promise of enhanced efficiency keep the brand at the cutting edge of the high-performance luxury SUV segment.
As the facelifted Urus Performante readies for its official debut, expectations are high for how this hybrid powerhouse will redefine the benchmark for luxury performance SUVs.
