Mercedes-Benz is set to stir opinions with the upcoming all-electric C-Class EQ, previewed through new renderings. The compact executive EV is poised to make a striking visual statement, particularly with its significantly enlarged front grille, a design choice that is already generating discussion among automotive enthusiasts.

Key Takeaways

A Divisive Front-End Design

The most talked-about feature of the new C-Class EQ is undoubtedly its front grille. Unlike some manufacturers who are scaling back large grilles, Mercedes appears to be embracing it as a central design element. These new renderings suggest the grille will be a substantial presence, framed by a chrome or silver bezel and featuring three horizontal slats illuminated by numerous LEDs. This bold approach is complemented by a fresh headlight design incorporating Mercedes' signature star-shaped daytime running lights.

Potential Liftback Surprise and Rear Styling

While not officially confirmed, some reports indicate that the electric C-Class might adopt a liftback body style, similar to the new Audi A5. If this proves true, the rear of the car could offer a sleeker, more tapered profile compared to its combustion-engine counterpart. The renderings depict slim LED taillights integrated into a full-width gloss-black panel, contributing to a modern aesthetic.

Advanced Powertrain and Performance

Built on the MB.EA architecture, the C-Class EQ will come equipped with a 94 kWh battery pack and an 800-volt electrical system. This setup will support rapid charging speeds of up to 330 kW, enabling a projected driving range of up to 497 miles (800 km), surpassing the range of the GLC EQ. The initial C400 variant is expected to feature dual electric motors producing a combined 483 horsepower, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds. High-performance AMG versions are also in development, with prototypes already spotted testing with large wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes.

Interior Technology

Details about the interior remain scarce, but Mercedes has several options for its cabin technology. It could adopt the expansive 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen seen in the GLC EQ, transforming the dashboard into a single glass surface. Alternatively, it might feature the newer Superscreen layout from the CLA, which includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch central infotainment display, along with an additional 14-inch passenger screen.

The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class EQ is anticipated to debut by the end of this year, with a global launch expected in early 2027.
