Mercedes-Benz has announced a series of updates for its Marco Polo camper van. While visual changes are minimal, the key improvements focus on production quality, interior comfort, and technology. The company aims to solidify the Marco Polo's position in the premium camper segment by refining the user experience and taking greater control over its manufacturing process.
The most significant change is not on the vehicle itself, but in how it is made. Mercedes-Benz is moving the camper conversion process entirely in-house to its facility in Ludwigsfelde, Germany. Previously, this work was done in collaboration with Westfalia. This strategic shift allows Mercedes to directly oversee the entire production, which is expected to result in higher quality standards and potentially shorter delivery times for customers. The base V-Class vehicle will continue to be assembled in Vitoria, Spain.
The Marco Polo receives a newly designed pop-up roof. It features an aluminum shell and offers better thermal and sound insulation, making it more comfortable in various weather conditions. The roof contains a 2.05 by 1.13-meter bed and now includes configurable LED ambient lighting. Inside the main cabin, the rear seat bench still converts into a second sleeping area. The dashboard retains its dual 12.3-inch screens but now runs an updated control system, simplifying the operation of camping-specific features. Other practical refinements include new magnetic blackout covers for the windows, an improved awning, and a more efficient cooler box.
The mechanical components of the Marco Polo remain the same. The vehicle is powered by a proven 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine, available in several power outputs, with the top version producing 234 horsepower. A nine-speed automatic transmission is standard. Buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive and the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, which provides better traction on slippery surfaces. An optional self-leveling suspension system is also available to enhance ride comfort.
The updated Marco Polo, along with its more basic Horizon variant that omits the kitchenette, will be available for order soon, with first deliveries expected in the latter half of 2026. While pricing has not been announced, the changes reinforce its premium market standing. Looking forward, Mercedes has confirmed that a completely new generation is already in development. This future model will be built on a new, more flexible vehicle platform that will support both all-electric and traditional internal combustion engine versions, ensuring the Marco Polo name continues into the next era of mobility.
