The MG4 Urban introduces a fresh design that aligns more closely with other MG models, such as the ZS and HS. It stands apart visually from the original MG4, which has had its own distinctive styling since 2022. The Urban also features new wheel designs similar to those on MG’s Cyberster roadster. While both cars share similar naming, their exteriors are clearly differentiated. Additionally, the MG4 Urban represents the entry-level option with a starting price of £23,495, making it significantly more affordable than the refreshed MG4, which starts at £29,995 for the Premium Long Range version.
The MG4 Urban offers three specifications: Comfort Standard Range, Comfort Long Range (£25,495), and Premium Long Range (£27,995). The car uses a 42.8kWh battery pack paired with a 161bhp electric motor. According to China’s CLTC cycle, it achieves an estimated range of 271 miles and reaches a limited top speed of 99mph. Detailed technical information for the UK market is expected soon, but these figures give a preliminary perspective on the Urban’s capabilities.
The original MG4 receives several updates, including enhanced driving characteristics and new onboard technologies intended to improve user experience. The Premium Long Range variant now starts at £29,995 (down £2,750 from before), and the Premium Extended Range variant (£32,995) extends the claimed driving range to 338 miles. The top-spec XPower model is priced at £33,995. These updates aim to keep the MG4 competitive in the electric hatchback segment by focusing on customer value and advanced features.
Both the MG4 Urban and the updated MG4 target affordability in the electric hatchback segment, an area currently dominated by more expensive models from VW, Renault, and Kia. MG’s pricing strategy makes electric vehicles more accessible, while continuing to offer competitive battery range and performance. The introduction of the Urban variant leverages this value proposition, targeting buyers who prioritize cost without sacrificing key features.
Summary:
The MG4 Urban expands the MG4 lineup with a more traditional MG design, competitive entry-level pricing, and practical electric performance. Meanwhile, the updated MG4 brings further enhancements in technology and range, maintaining MG’s position as an industry value leader in the electric hatchback market.
