Get ready for a new contender in the electric sports car arena. A lightweight, two-seater EV coupe, reportedly backed by Xiaomi and Jiangling's JMEV brand, is slated for a European launch. The SC-01, with its retro-inspired design and modern performance, is expected to be built in Italy and aims to offer a compelling alternative to established performance brands.
The SC-01 is designed to be a serious enthusiast's proposition, distinguishing itself with a remarkably low weight for an electric vehicle. Weighing in at 1,365 kg (3,009 lbs), its aluminum construction and advanced pushrod suspension contribute to its sporty credentials. Measuring 4106 mm (161.7 inches) long, it's more compact than many contemporary sports cars, including the Alpine A110.
Underneath its classic-inspired skin, the SC-01 packs a punch. Dual electric motors deliver a combined output of 429 bhp (320 kW), enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 kmh) in a brisk 2.9 seconds. A 60 kWh battery is expected to provide a CLTC-rated range of 311 miles (500 km), though real-world figures will likely be lower, especially when driven enthusiastically.
In a move that might surprise many in the current EV landscape, the SC-01's interior eschews large, dominating touchscreens. Instead, it features a single driver display and traditional physical controls for climate functions. This design choice suggests a focus on driver engagement and a less distracting experience behind the wheel.
While exact European pricing and an official launch date are yet to be confirmed, reports suggest the SC-01 could be priced around 500,000 yuan (approximately $72,000 / €61,000 / £53,000) for the European market. This positions it competitively against upcoming electric sports cars from major manufacturers, which are anticipated to carry higher price tags. The car is expected to debut on January 24.
