Toyota has unveiled a unique, one-off pink sedan, the "Ichigo Crown," to celebrate a significant anniversary. This eye-catching vehicle is not just a bold fashion statement but also a tribute to a region's agricultural pride, blending automotive tradition with a playful, fruity theme.
The Toyota Crown Sedan, often seen in more subdued colors befitting its executive status, has been given a vibrant makeover. This special edition, named the "Ichigo Crown" (Japanese for Strawberry Crown), sports a bright pink wrap accented with soft white gradients. The design aims to evoke the sweetness of strawberries, a fitting choice as it celebrates the 80th anniversary of Tochigi Toyota, the automaker's official dealership network in the region. The choice of theme is directly linked to Tochigi Prefecture's leading role in strawberry production across Japan.
The custom livery goes beyond a simple color change. The "Ichigo Crown" features graphics along its body showcasing several local strawberry varieties, including Tochiotome, Tochiaika, and Skyberry. Adding to the whimsical design are a pink castle painted on the hood and three cartoon-style mascots: Tochimaru-kun, Ichigo-chan, and Strawberry Monster. This playful aesthetic transforms the car into something reminiscent of a dessert cart rather than a traditional executive saloon.
The "Ichigo Crown" is based on the Z trim of the sedan and is equipped with Toyota's efficient self-charging hybrid powertrain. This system combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, delivering a total of 234 horsepower (172 kW / 236 PS) to the rear wheels.
The one-off model was officially unveiled during "Strawberry Kingdom Tochigi Day," an event held on January 18 at the Tochigi Prefectural Government Office. The reveal was attended by Governor Fukuda Tomiichi, who embraced the theme by dressing as the King of the Strawberry Kingdom. The event also included a student fashion show, an art exhibition, and a variety of strawberry-themed desserts.
This isn't the first time Tochigi Toyota has embraced the strawberry theme for its Crown models. The previous generation of the Crown sedan also received a similar strawberry treatment and remains part of the dealership's fleet. Furthermore, a special edition "ReBORN PINK" Crown Athlete from 2013, featuring a deeper pink hue, was also sold in limited quantities in the Japanese market, indicating a recurring fondness for this unique automotive expression.
