The 2027 Ram 1500 REV is the latest extended-range electric pickup from Stellantis, recently unveiled in production-ready form. It utilizes a unique powertrain configuration that combines a fully electric drivetrain with a gas engine serving solely as an onboard generator. The truck uses a 92-kilowatt-hour battery pack, placed between the chassis rails, powering both front and rear electric motors. In total, these motors deliver 647 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque. When battery power is low and no charger is available, a 3.6-liter V6 gas engine activates to generate electricity via a 130 kW generator. There is no mechanical link between the engine and the wheels; all propulsion remains electric, ensuring smooth performance and minimal engine noise.
On a full battery charge and full fuel tank, the Ram 1500 REV targets a maximum range of 690 miles, addressing typical range anxiety among pickup drivers. On electricity alone, the truck is expected to deliver a range of 145 miles. It features a CCS1 charging port that supports up to 145 kW DC fast charging, allowing approximately 50 miles of added electric range in just 10 minutes. This dual approach with electric and gas-generated charging offers flexibility for both urban and rural users.
The Ram 1500 REV stands out as the first American full-size pickup with extended-range electric technology set for mass production. Market rivals like Scout’s gas-assisted trucks won’t reach dealerships until after the Ram enters the market. Compared to traditional gas-powered pickups, the REV provides instant electric torque and a quieter ride while matching or exceeding towing and payload capacities. With targeted best-in-class towing of up to 14,000 pounds and a 2,625-pound maximum payload, it meets the demands of practical truck use while appealing to those interested in new technology.
This model is offered exclusively as a crew cab with four doors and a 5-foot, 7-inch bed. The battery placement results in a fully flat floor in the cabin, providing additional comfort for passengers. Externally, the REV version is distinguished by an illuminated grille, unique front bumper, and exclusive badging. The wheels are secured with eight lugs, setting it apart from other Ram pickups’ six-lug configuration. Charging port placement and dedicated REV design elements highlight the vehicle’s electric nature without sacrificing the robust styling expected of full-size trucks.
The combined electric and gas generator system removes the typical anxiety associated with purely electric trucks by providing a familiar backup fueling method. Users can drive extended distances on gasoline if charging infrastructure is lacking, making the REV suitable for both city and long-distance or work-related use. The quick-charging capability further ensures minimal downtime during travel.
With its pending launch, the Ram 1500 REV signals a trend toward extended-range electric vehicles in the pickup market. As technology matures and consumer demand for both versatility and low emissions grows, more manufacturers are expected to introduce similar models. The Ram’s balance of innovation and practicality sets a strong benchmark for the industry.
