Infiniti has introduced the 2027 QX65, a two-row midsize SUV that revives the coupe-like styling of the brand's former FX model. Based on the three-row QX60 platform, the QX65 aims to blend aggressive design with everyday practicality. The vehicle enters a competitive market segment with a focus on aesthetics and interior volume.

Powertrain and On-Road Behavior

The QX65 is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 268 horsepower. This is the same powertrain found in its larger QX60 sibling. With a vehicle weight of approximately 4,700 pounds, acceleration is adequate for daily driving but lacks the immediacy expected from a sport-oriented model. It requires a moment to build momentum for highway merging. Once at cruising speed, the cabin remains quiet and the ride is comfortable, suitable for long-distance travel.

An Analysis of Sport-Tuned Features

To support its athletic appearance, Infiniti has implemented several sport-focused adjustments. The transmission is programmed for quicker upshifts and more responsive downshifts, particularly after braking. The accelerator pedal response has also been sharpened for a more immediate feel. A notable feature is an active sound enhancement system that pipes V6 engine harmonics through the cabin's speakers. This system is most prominent in the Active driving mode and cannot be deactivated by the driver.

However, these enhancements do not fully translate to a sporty driving experience. In corners, the vehicle exhibits noticeable body roll. The sensitive throttle can make the heavy vehicle feel unsteady when accelerating from a stop. In Sport mode, the artificial engine sound can become a constant drone, and the transmission holds gears for extended periods, which detracts from a refined performance feel.

Interior Space and Practicality

The QX65's primary strength is its interior volume. By removing the third row of seats from the QX60 architecture, Infiniti has created a spacious cabin for five passengers. The vehicle offers 35.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, with an additional 1.9 cubic feet of storage under the floor. This capacity is competitive, placing it ahead of some rivals, though slightly behind the four-cylinder Genesis GV80's 38.7 cubic feet. The tight turning radius is a practical benefit for maneuvering in parking lots.

Market Position

The 2027 Infiniti QX65 presents itself as a comfortable and spacious midsize SUV with a distinct, sporty design. While it successfully channels the visual spirit of the past FX model, its driving dynamics align more with those of a comfortable cruiser than a performance vehicle. The choice of a four-cylinder engine contributes to a combined fuel economy rating of 22 miles per gallon, a practical consideration for potential buyers. The vehicle offers style and utility but does not deliver the athletic performance its appearance suggests.
