Mitsubishi has unveiled the 2026 Outlander, featuring a new hybrid powertrain. While it offers a slight increase in horsepower, the fuel economy figures are raising eyebrows, barely improving over the outgoing model. The updated SUV also introduces new trim levels and sees a modest price adjustment.

Key Takeaways

Powertrain And Performance

The 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander is equipped with a newly developed 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, integrated into a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This setup delivers a combined output of 174 horsepower and 206 lb-ft of torque. This represents a slight decrease in horsepower compared to the previous 2.5-liter engine, which produced 181 hp.

Fuel Economy Concerns

Despite the hybrid designation, the fuel economy ratings for the new Outlander are underwhelming. Mitsubishi reports an EPA rating of up to 26 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway, and 28 mpg combined. These figures offer only a marginal improvement over the outgoing model, which achieved up to 24 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined.

New Trims And Pricing

The 2026 Outlander sees a slight price increase, with the entry-level ES trim starting at $29,995, a $350 jump from the previous year. Including the destination fee, the overall increase is around $600. Several new trims have been introduced:
