Porsche has unveiled its new contender for the 2026/2027 Formula E season, the 975 RSE. This fourth-generation (GEN4) all-electric racer represents a significant leap in technology and performance. Here are the essential facts.
The car features two main power levels. In regular racing, its powertrain is capped at 604 horsepower. However, drivers can activate "Attack Mode," a temporary boost that unleashes the full 805 horsepower. This feature is designed for strategic overtaking during a race. The car is also equipped with permanent all-wheel drive, ensuring all that power is transferred to the track efficiently for maximum grip.
The combination of high power and low weight results in extreme acceleration. The Porsche 975 RSE can sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 1.8 seconds. A key factor is its weight; at just 2,103 lbs (954 kg), it weighs less than many small road cars. This low mass is critical for its rapid acceleration and nimble handling in corners.
The 975 RSE uses a 51.25 kWh battery pack. A major technological highlight is its energy recovery system. The car can recuperate up to 700 kW of power through regenerative braking. This means that when the driver brakes, the system captures a large amount of energy and sends it back to the battery, extending its range during a race. For pit stops, it also supports ultra-fast charging at up to 600 kW.
The design is driven entirely by aerodynamics. The intricate multi-level front splitter, complex bodywork, and large rear wing are all engineered to create immense downforce. This force pushes the car onto the track, allowing it to corner at much higher speeds than a car without these features. The result is a vehicle that looks like it's from the future because its shape is dictated by cutting-edge performance principles.
Yes. The company has a strong record in the all-electric racing series. As of the current 2025/2026 season, Porsche leads both the drivers’ and teams’ championships. This follows a teams' title in 2024-2025 and a drivers' championship in 2023-2024, establishing them as a dominant force in the sport. The new 975 RSE is built to continue this legacy of success.
