Samsung's recent update to the Good Lock LockStar module introduces several feature enhancements, aligning with the evolving demands of technology enthusiasts. The new version (8.5.00.8) impacts Galaxy devices running One UI 8.5 and One UI 8.0, with a clear distinction in the scope of new customization options and technical capabilities provided to each version.
The primary advancement for One UI 8.5 devices is the addition of customizable screen unlock animation effects. Six distinct animation styles—Slide, Expand, Spread, Wave, Warp, and Ripple—have been introduced. Users can further personalize these effects by adjusting parameters such as shape, color, animation duration, and interpolator settings, which modify the animation curve for unique visual responses during unlock events. These enhancements leverage the hardware and software optimizations exclusive to more advanced Galaxy models, offering a more sophisticated and responsive user experience compared to prior software versions.
Another significant feature exclusive to One UI 8.5 equipped devices—specifically the Galaxy S24 and newer high-end models—is manual control over Always-On Display (AOD) brightness. This function is accessible only on devices capable of handling full-screen AOD wallpapers, thus tying the availability of advanced display options to the hardware profile. The inclusion of such granular brightness control gives users greater flexibility to adjust display output to their environment or preferences, improving usability and potentially enhancing battery efficiency by fine-tuning display strength as required.
For Galaxy devices operating on One UI 8.0, the LockStar update delivers a new custom text option, allowing users to display personalized messages directly on the lock screen. Additionally, improvements have been made to lock screen widgets, including the introduction of corner rounding options and resolved issues related to fingerprint animation effects. While these updates enhance visual customization and reliability, they are distinct from the unlock animation and AOD enhancements provided to the newer firmware.
The technical advancements made available to One UI 8.5 devices are tied directly to the operating system's capability and device hardware configuration. Performance indicators, such as increased animation customization and new controls, are measurable by user engagement, unlock animation responsiveness, and display adaptability. Conversely, features for One UI 8.0 largely focus on cosmetic and stability improvements, rather than expanding the core interactive experience.
The latest LockStar update delineates a clear technological progression between One UI 8.0 and 8.5. While both receive valuable new features, One UI 8.5 devices—especially recent high-end Galaxy models—gain access to advanced unlock effects and display controls. The update not only reflects the pace of innovation in mobile interface customization but also highlights how current hardware enables a higher tier of user-centric feature development.
