Ikea, a brand known for affordable design, now launches a full smart home range. The line contains close to twenty devices that follow the Matter protocol, a choice that could change how people automate their homes.
Matter acts as a single language for smart devices - it ends the problem where products from one brand fail to work with those from another. Ikea's new lamps sensors and control units speak this language - they join Apple, Google or Amazon set ups without extra brand specific hubs. The outcome is a simpler user path.
A clear example is the Bilresa range of buttons and remotes. Each unit lets the owner set single, double or long presses for different commands - routines match personal habits. Because the price stays low, Ikea brings high level automation within reach of more households.
The goods are not on sale yet, but the Matter pledge matters. With vast stores plus familiar blue-and-yellow signs, Ikea gives the standard visibility well beyond the tech crowd. If the roll out proceeds, a shared smart home network could shift from specialist hobby to everyday fixture.
