OpenAI has rolled out a new feature for ChatGPT users, dubbed the "Library," which allows for the long-term storage, browsing, and retrieval of uploaded and created files. This enhancement aims to provide a centralized hub for users to manage their interactions and documents within the AI tool. The feature is currently exclusive to paid subscribers.
The ChatGPT Library automatically saves documents uploaded within the standard chat window for logged-in users. This central repository enables users to search for and recall specific files with ease. To access this functionality, users must be subscribed to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, or Business tiers, requiring a monthly payment of at least $20. Access to these stored files is contingent on an active internet connection.
With the "Memory" feature enabled, ChatGPT can leverage the files stored in the Library to inform and enhance future conversations. This allows the AI to recall context and information from previously uploaded or created content. The supported file formats encompass a range of common types, including documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and images. However, images generated directly by ChatGPT will continue to be housed within the dedicated Images tab.
To utilize the Library feature, users need to sign in to their ChatGPT account. A plus sign located on the left side of the chat input window serves as the entry point. Clicking this will reveal an "Add from Library" option, allowing users to select and insert files. The Library itself is presented in a searchable left-hand sidebar, which can be filtered by file type and origin (uploaded or created).
