At the recent Dubai Muscle Show, fitness coach, author, and podcaster James Smith unveiled Neutonic, a groundbreaking "productivity drink" that aims to enhance lifestyle performance by integrating neuroscience. Smith, a co-founder of the brand, is notable for his direct customer engagement, offering personal email contact and direct refunds.
Smith explained that the concept for Neutonic emerged from his personal need for a beverage that could support his demanding schedule, which includes fitness, writing, and podcasting. He sought a product that offered genuine cognitive benefits without the jitters or subsequent crash often associated with energy drinks. This led to the development of a drink that leverages nootropics and tonic properties.
The development process involved extensive research and iteration. Smith shared that he has personally consumed around 50,000 energy drinks in his lifetime, giving him a deep understanding of what works and what doesn't. Neutonic's formulation is a result of this experience, aiming to provide a clean, effective boost. The name "Neutonic" itself is a portmanteau of "nootropic" and "tonic," reflecting its dual purpose.
The can design and the drink's formulation also reflect a meticulous approach. Smith noted that the drink is intentionally less fizzy to allow for comfortable consumption during workouts. The premium matte finish on the can, while costly, contributes to the product's high-end feel. Even the minor dents that appeared during transit served as a lesson in the realities of production and the cost of perfection.
Smith believes there is a significant gap in the market for a product like Neutonic. He contrasted it with existing options, such as energy drinks that often contain excessive sugar and artificial ingredients, or coffee, which can lead to energy spikes and crashes. Neutonic aims to offer a more balanced and sustainable approach to enhancing mental and physical performance, catering to individuals who are serious about optimizing their daily output.
