Unity, a leading game development platform, has announced ambitious plans to leverage artificial intelligence to significantly streamline and potentially eliminate the need for traditional coding in game creation. The company revealed that its upcoming AI beta, set to launch in March, will allow developers to generate entire casual games using natural language prompts.
Unity CEO Matthew Bromberg discussed the company's AI strategy during a recent earnings call, highlighting AI-driven authoring as a major focus for 2026. The forthcoming Unity AI beta, to be unveiled at the Game Developer Conference in March, is designed to allow users to prompt complete casual games into existence using only natural language. This feature is intended to simplify the process from initial concept to a finished product, directly within the Unity platform.
Bromberg explained that this AI assistant will be powered by Unity's deep understanding of project context and its runtime, combined with leading frontier AI models. He expressed confidence that this integrated approach will yield more efficient and effective results for game developers compared to using general-purpose AI models alone.
Unity AI is positioned to "democratize" game development, opening doors for individuals without extensive coding knowledge to create interactive entertainment. Simultaneously, it aims to enhance productivity for experienced developers by removing friction from the creative process. Unity's ultimate goal is to serve as a universal bridge, transforming the initial spark of creativity into a successful, scalable, and enduring digital experience.
Bromberg anticipates that AI-enabled development tools will lead to tens of millions more people creating interactive entertainment, with Unity aiming to be at the forefront of this expansion.
The current Unity AI assistant utilizes large language models from OpenAI (GPT) and Meta (Llama) to assist users with queries, generate code snippets, and perform agentic actions. For asset creation and refinement, Unity AI generators employ a combination of first-party and partner models. These partners include Scenario, which integrates models like Stable Diffusion, FLUX, Bria, and GPT-Image, and Layer AI, based on Stable Diffusion and FLUX foundation models.
