Many Minecraft players already risk a trip through the Nether so they can craft their own top grade gear. In the near future, their horses will gain access to that same heavy protection. Mojang now adds Netherite horse armor something fans have asked for repeatedly - the metal plates will let a horse take far more hits than before.
This armor heads toward the game inside the "Mounts of Mayhem" package, planned for launch before the year ends. Java owners who use snapshot 25w45a or Bedrock users who load preview 1.21.130.26, already see the item in the world. Mojang calls this the "final testing opportunity," a clear hint the finished patch will drop soon.
You craft the armor by upgrading diamond horse plates. Place the diamond set on a smithing table, set a Netherite ingot beside it and include the new smithing template that carries the upgrade. The team shared their enthusiasm in a brief post - among every metal in Minecraft, only Netherite feels heavy enough for mounts that live for chaos.
The armor works as more than another slot filler - it moves horses into the same league as a well geared player - the animal now joins deep end adventures without dropping after two hits. Owners who once stabled their horses near home will now spend diamonds, ingots and time to raise a battle ready companion. In short the horse moves from simple travel tool to permanent, reliable partner in Minecraft.
