The era of Zelda continues. After she solved puzzles in Echoes of Wisdom, the princess now wields a blade in Hyrule Warriors - Age of Imprisonment, a prequel that details the ancient history briefly shown in Tears of the Kingdom. Fans who want to spend more time in Hyrule's past have talked about this release a lot.
The game came out for the Nintendo Switch 2. Developer AAA Games Studio places players inside the events that sent Zelda back in time. We follow her as she forms alliances with the first rulers of Hyrule, like King Rauru and his sister Mineru, to fight the growing power of Ganondorf.
The strongest part of the game is its story - it adds official lore and gives fans extended time with characters who appeared only briefly in Tears of the Kingdom. The tale lets players simply stay in that world plus also introduces likeable new characters.
From a technical view, the game succeeds - it runs smoothly on the new hardware, a clear step up from the framerate problems that troubled its predecessor, Age of Calamity. Combat feels quick and rewarding besides Zelda works well as the lead hero.
Yet the overall experience suffers because of its mission design. Reviewers say the battlefields are too straight and dull - they look like narrow corridors instead of the wide maps the series is known for. This tight layout turns the fun combat into a repetitive task. The game places Zelda at the center, but future titles will need to mix this solid character focus with the open, strategic level design that marks the best Warriors games.
