Nintendo will release a free update and a Switch 2 Edition on 15 January 2026. The patch adds new systems but also quality-of-life fixes that change how the game plays.

New Resort Building: Kappa's family takes over the pier and runs a resort. You accept crafting orders as well as arrange guest rooms to boost the resort's star rating.
Enhanced Controls: The Switch 2 Edition supports Joy-Con mouse mode - furniture placement, design editing and decoration require fewer steps.
Bulk Crafting: You select a recipe or a quantity - receive every copy at once instead of clicking through single items.
Island Clean-up: Resetti now packs every placed item and custom design into storage leaving the map bare without a full reset.

Bulk crafting removes early game repetition and a blank island sidesteps the mess left by years of dropped furniture. Restarting lets you relearn core tasks while the new tools speed each step. If the old save now looks like a static display rather than a living town, the update supplies a clear prompt to delete the file next to board the Dodo flight to a new island.
