Nintendo will release a free update and a Switch 2 Edition on 15 January 2026. The patch adds new systems but also quality-of-life fixes that change how the game plays.
Erasing Bells, items also museum progress feels harsh - yet the new systems are easier to appreciate from day one. Bulk crafting removes early game repetition and a blank island sidesteps the mess left by years of dropped furniture. Restarting lets you relearn core tasks while the new tools speed each step. If the old save now looks like a static display rather than a living town, the update supplies a clear prompt to delete the file next to board the Dodo flight to a new island.
