Overwatch's recent launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 has fallen short of player expectations, with many expressing disappointment over the game's performance and features. While Blizzard Entertainment has acknowledged some issues, particularly a frame rate bug, fans are also pointing to other shortcomings.
Following the release of Overwatch's season 2, which introduced a new hero and balance adjustments, the native Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has become a focal point of player frustration. This follows similar performance complaints from the original Switch port released in 2019.
Switch 2 owners have voiced their dissatisfaction online, citing a 1080p resolution that doesn't meet expectations for the new hardware. Furthermore, the absence of Joy-Con 2 mouse control support has been a significant point of contention for players accustomed to more precise input methods.
A major concern for players is the game's frame rate, which is currently capped at 30 frames per second (FPS). Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed that this limitation is not intentional. In a statement on the game's forums, the company acknowledged, "We are aware of an issue with the FPS limit on the Nintendo Switch 2 being lower than intended. We are working on a patch to resolve this issue."
While the frame rate bug is slated for a fix, it remains unclear if Blizzard plans to address other player concerns, such as increasing the resolution or implementing Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. Polygon has reached out to Blizzard for further comment on these matters and will provide updates as they become available.
This Switch 2 port isn't the only area experiencing bugs with the latest Overwatch update. Other platforms have also seen issues, including problems with keyboard and mouse support on Xbox and a game-breaking bug in the Stadium map that allows Ana to grant an excessive Ultimate boost to her teammates.
Overwatch is currently available on a wide range of platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
