The Tokyo Auto Salon has once again proven to be a playground for automotive excess, this time showcasing a radical transformation of the Lexus LBX. Kazama Industries has unveiled a drift-spec LBX that ditches its original three-cylinder engine for Toyota's legendary 2JZ powerplant, boosted to deliver over 1,000 horsepower. This extreme build is set to compete in the Formula D drifting championship.
Kazama Industries has taken the compact Lexus LBX and given it a heart transplant of epic proportions. The original 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine has been replaced by a stroked 3.6-liter version of Toyota's iconic 2JZ inline-six. This powerhouse is equipped with a single turbocharger and is targeted to produce well over 1,000 horsepower once fully tuned. To handle the immense power and the demands of professional drifting, the LBX has been converted to rear-wheel drive and fitted with a five-speed sequential transmission and a race-spec fuel cell.
Beyond the powertrain, the LBX boasts a dramatic visual overhaul. An aggressive custom body kit from Artisan Spirits features wide, flared arches, a substantial carbon fiber front splitter, a vented hood, and a towering rear wing. Complementing the aggressive stance are Rays wheels shod in Yokohama Advan AD09 tires. Stopping power is provided by Wilwood brakes, and the suspension has been completely replaced with an aftermarket setup optimized for drifting. An electric power steering system has also been integrated to allow for the extreme steering angles required for precise drift maneuvers.
Kazama Industries didn't stop at just the LBX. Alongside the compact SUV, they also unveiled a wild GR86 drift build. This GR86 shares the same stroked 3.6-liter 2JZ engine, also aiming for the 1,000 hp mark. It mirrors many of the LBX's performance upgrades, including Rays wheels, Wilwood brakes, a sequential transmission, and an equally aggressive widebody kit, showcasing Kazama's dedication to extreme drift builds.
