The Volvo EX60 is an all-new electric SUV positioned to build on the popularity of the brand's XC60 model. Making its official debut later this month, the EX60 targets the midsize SUV market with competitive electric capabilities. Volvo states that the EX60 will achieve an EPA-rated range of 400 miles with all-wheel drive, a figure notable among midsize electric SUVs.
The EX60 is a two-row, midsize SUV powered by electric motors developed in-house by Volvo. Its most prominent features include an 800-volt electrical system and a structural battery pack. The SUV is built on the SPA3 EV platform—an advanced architecture designed for improved weight balance and efficiency, utilizing megacasting manufacturing for key structural components. Both motors and batteries use new technology to achieve a balance between energy density and power delivery. Charging capabilities are a highlight: the EX60 can add up to 168 miles of range in just 10 minutes with a 400-kW charger.
With a 400-mile expected driving range and all-wheel drive as standard, the EX60 places itself in direct competition with models like the Tesla Model Y (357 miles maximum), Cadillac Lyriq (326 miles), and Audi Q6 E-Tron (321 miles). It currently offers a longer range than these competitors, especially when considering that many rivals do not offer all-wheel drive at their top range.
The EX60 will become Volvo’s longest-range electric vehicle, surpassing both the larger EX90 (three-row SUV) and the smaller EX30 (compact electric SUV). The SPA3 platform will also underpin the future Polestar 7, indicating Volvo’s plan to expand its EV lineup with similar technology.
The EX60 prioritizes both range and practicality. The rear cargo area is designed for versatility, and Volvo plans to introduce accessories such as a cargo bin with integrated volume measurements. This feature addresses everyday needs for storage and organization. The midsize two-row format offers a balance between interior space and overall vehicle size, aiming to serve families and individuals seeking a practical yet efficient electric SUV.
The 2027 Volvo EX60 brings together advanced electric vehicle technology with high range, fast charging, and practical design features. It stands out among midsize electric SUVs for its range capability and charging speed, potentially setting a new benchmark in its segment. More official details are expected upon its imminent release.
