Mugen has unveiled its highly anticipated Spec.III tuning kit for the new Honda Prelude, injecting the hybrid coupe with a dose of retro styling and enhanced performance. This limited-edition package, inspired by Mugen's 1987 Spec.II kit for the third-generation Prelude, offers a unique aesthetic and an exclusive ownership experience.
The Spec.III kit is a modern tribute to its predecessor, featuring a full carbon fiber "Group A" aero kit and a sports exhaust. Exclusive decals in red, gold, and black adorn the car, evoking a vintage racing feel. A serialized badge and numbered plaque further distinguish these limited units. While the kit itself is priced at ¥1,650,000 (approximately $10,510), securing one requires entering a lottery. Applications are open from January 8 to February 27, 2026, with winners announced on March 19 and deliveries commencing June 19.
For enthusiasts who don't manage to secure the limited Spec.III kit, Mugen is also offering the individual "Group A" components. These include a two-piece front splitter, side skirts, carbon fiber mirror covers, rear bumper extensions, a rear diffuser, and a tailgate spoiler. Interior enhancements such as branded floor mats and luggage mats are also available, along with scuff plates.
Mugen isn't just about aesthetics; the tuner also offers performance-oriented parts. A stainless steel sports exhaust system is available, alongside 19-inch forged BBS wheels. Suspension upgrades include Yamaha-tuned dampers and high-performance brake pads. A range of smaller accessories, from reservoir covers to wheel nuts and key cases, complete the customization options.
Opting for every single Mugen part would amount to approximately ¥2,721,240 (around $17,300) before labor costs. This is in addition to the Prelude's base price, which starts from ¥6,179,800 (about $39,400) in Japan, making the modified Prelude a significant investment.
