The 2027 Corvette Grand Sport distinguishes itself with an all-new powerplant, expected to enhance both performance and driving excitement. Unlike previous iterations that reused engines from the Stingray or lightly tuned Z06s, this model is slated to debut an LS6 V8 engine with a 6.7-liter (409 cubic inch) displacement. The use of an aluminum block reduces weight, while a combination of both direct and port fuel injection ensures efficient performance and a powerful, classic V8 exhaust note. This engine design reflects Chevrolet’s aim to blend tradition with advanced engineering.
The new Grand Sport is expected to fit between the Stingray and E-Ray models. The Stingray delivers 495 horsepower, while the hybrid E-Ray offers 655 horsepower, and the higher-performance Z06 generates 670 horsepower. Speculation based on leaked documentation suggests the Grand Sport will offer between 550 and 600 horsepower, seeking the right balance of power for both daily usability and spirited driving. This would place the Grand Sport comfortably in the "sweet spot"—with more power than the base Stingray but without the intense focus (or price tag) of the Z06 and E-Ray.
Industry rumors suggest the Grand Sport could be priced between $85,000 and $100,000. This strategic placement bridges the gap between the entry-level Stingray (from $70,000) and the E-Ray (starting at $108,600). This mid-level pricing provides buyers with a strong blend of traditional V8 performance and advanced features without requiring the investment of the most premium C8s. The Grand Sport is likely to appeal to driving enthusiasts seeking value, performance, and the unmistakable Corvette spirit.
The LS6 V8 employs both direct and port fuel injection, which helps it deliver precise fuel control whether cruising or accelerating hard—this results in better performance and fuel economy. The aluminum block helps keep engine weight down, translating to sharper handling and improved balance. The increased 6.7-liter capacity provides extra torque for strong acceleration and the classic muscle-car soundtrack that has made Corvette engines iconic. All these characteristics aim to deliver a responsive, enjoyable driving experience while ensuring modern-day reliability and efficiency.
Compared to its segment peers, the Grand Sport aims to offer an ideal compromise between high-performance capability and everyday drivability. Few competitors in the price range offer such a large-displacement, naturally aspirated V8 with a classic American exhaust sound. While many sports cars have adopted smaller engines or electrification, the Grand Sport holds on to the naturally aspirated V8 formula, catering directly to enthusiasts who value tradition and character in their vehicles. This approach differentiates the Grand Sport in an increasingly electrified marketplace, potentially making it a standout choice for those seeking a blend of legacy and innovation.
