The Nissan Gravite is a new sub-compact minivan designed primarily for budget-minded families in India. Targeting those who need seating for up to seven yet are looking for value, this model appeals particularly to practical buyers who seek space, flexibility, and affordability in a single package.
The Gravite is built on the same platform as the Renault Triber and shares most of its body structure. Nissan, however, has added distinctive touches, including a larger grille, revised LED headlight graphics, and C-shaped front bumper elements which give the vehicle a unique road presence. At the rear, a new bumper and updated LED taillight designs, along with the trademarked Gravite nameplate, help visually separate it from its Renault cousin.
While images of the interior haven’t been officially released, Nissan has promised “ultra-modular” seating and “exceptional roominess.” The three-row layout allows up to seven passengers, making the most out of the Gravite’s compact size of just under 4 meters in length (3,985 mm). This makes it ideal for families who want to accommodate more people without requiring a bulky vehicle.
Under the hood, the Gravite is expected to utilize a 1.0-liter gasoline engine producing about 71 horsepower and 96 Nm of torque. These numbers indicate that the car is built more for efficient, everyday urban driving rather than sporty performance. Both a five-speed manual and a five-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission—a manual gearbox operated by automated controls for clutch and gear shifts) are likely to be available, making the car accessible for a range of driving preferences.
The Gravite is smaller than European competitors like the Dacia Jogger, which means it fits city environments well. It competes directly with other value-driven MPVs in India by prioritizing seating capacity, flexible cabin space, and cost-effectiveness over high-end performance or luxury. In line with industry trends for emerging markets, Nissan is focusing on reliable, affordable family transport, sharing resources with strategic partners (in this case, Renault) to manage costs and speed development.
The Gravite will be officially revealed in January 2025 and expects to reach Indian showrooms by March 2026. It will be manufactured alongside the Triber at Renault’s Chennai facility, leveraging shared production efficiencies to keep pricing competitive for its target audience.
The Gravite is positioned as a highly practical, entry-level seven-seater for growing families or budget-focused buyers. Its modular seating, compact size, and straightforward engine options focus on reliability, value, and maximum usability without unnecessary frills.
