Chinese automotive giant Chery has officially launched its own-brand models in the UK, with the seven-seat Tiggo 8 SUV leading the charge. Following its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Tiggo 8 is now available for order, with prices starting at a competitive £28,545. This marks a significant expansion for Chery in the UK, building on the success of its sub-brands, Omoda and Jaecoo.
The Chery Tiggo 8 SUV is the first vehicle to be sold directly under the Chery nameplate in the UK, though the automotive group has already established a presence through its Omoda and Jaecoo sub-brands. These sub-brands have seen considerable success, selling a combined total of over 19,000 cars in the first seven months of 2025, outselling established brands like Fiat and Jeep.
The Tiggo 8 offers a '5+2' seating arrangement, meaning it can accommodate seven passengers, although the third row is best suited for occasional use or smaller occupants. Customers can choose between a standard petrol model and a more advanced 'Super Hybrid' plug-in version.
The base petrol model features a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine producing 145bhp and 203lb ft of torque, capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 9.8 seconds. The 'Super Hybrid' variant is more potent, combining a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a total of 201bhp and 269lb ft of torque. This hybrid model boasts an 18.4kWh battery, offering a claimed EV-only range of up to 56 miles and a total combined range of 765 miles. It also offers improved acceleration, reaching 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds.
Externally, the Tiggo 8 presents an inoffensive design with a notable chrome grille and a rear profile that draws comparisons to the Kia Sportage. It will be offered in two trim levels: Aspire and Summit.
Standard features across both trims include:
The higher-spec Summit grade enhances the offering with:
Chery is positioning the Tiggo 8 as a strong value proposition. Prices start from £28,545, making it a compelling option in the seven-seat SUV segment. While the Dacia Jogger and Vauxhall Frontera are cheaper seven-seaters, the Nissan X-Trail is a closer competitor in terms of packaging, priced from £36,225.
To build customer confidence, Chery is backing the Tiggo 8 with a comprehensive seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty. Chery UK deputy country director, Farrell Hsu, expressed confidence in the brand's long-term commitment to the UK market, aiming to establish Chery as a household name through quality, innovation, and strong ownership support.
Looking ahead, Chery plans to introduce a smaller, five-seat SUV, the Tiggo 7, in the near future, though pricing details are yet to be announced.
