Kia has officially unveiled the updated Stonic, its compact crossover that competes in a segment crowded with rivals like the Ford Puma, Vauxhall Mokka, and Peugeot 2008. Despite being easy to overlook in recent years, the Stonic returns with notable enhancements aimed at capturing the attention of car enthusiasts and everyday drivers alike.
The most visible change to the new Stonic is its exterior design. The updated model now aligns more closely with the modern styling seen on Kia's latest SUVs, such as the Sportage. It also draws inspiration from the brand’s expanding electric lineup, though it remains firmly in the petrol category. New headlights, redesigned bumpers, and eye-catching wheel options give the Stonic a fresher and more assertive appearance. Roof rails are standard for added utility, and the higher-spec GT-Line grades feature unique design details to set them apart.
Inside, the Stonic has received a thorough refresh. The updated interior features Kia’s latest steering wheel and upgraded infotainment system. A significant improvement is the presence of physical buttons and switches, offering a user-friendly and practical touch that many drivers still appreciate. Upholstery options introduce a playful element, with distinctive patterns and fabrics.
Technology and safety upgrades are at the forefront of the update. The Stonic now offers wireless charging, enhanced driver assistance systems, and app-based connectivity features, including phone-as-key functionality. These improvements bring the model in line with current expectations for safety and convenience.
The Stonic remains a petrol-powered crossover, with no fully electric variant announced. Buyers can choose between a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 98bhp—available with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic—or a mild-hybrid version generating 113bhp, exclusively paired with the dual-clutch gearbox. Kia states that this approach reflects the diverse needs and electrification rates across different markets.
Pricing for the UK market will be confirmed in the near future. The Stonic’s comprehensive update positions it as a competitive option in the popular compact crossover segment, while maintaining Kia’s reputation for combining style, practicality, and value.
