Rivian now offers a short term color called Borealis for every version of the R1, from the Tri-Motor to the Quad-Motor. Borealis is a bright purple that first appeared during Art Week in Miami Beach. Buyers pay $3,000 for this paint besides Rivian will stop offering it after the set period. The move fits the firm's policy of giving buyers many ways to personalize their vehicles - the R1 line already lists ten colors, six of which depart from the usual black, white or gray palette.
Rivian R1 trucks or SUVs that wear the Borealis shade keep every technical trait that defines the brand - advanced battery drivetrains, strong load capacity and design aimed at outdoor use. Tri-Motor and Quad-Motor versions deliver high performance through separate electric motors that supply extra grip and rapid acceleration. The purple paint sets the vehicle apart from the common gray, black or white EVs. A rare color also gives the owner a distinct experience plus has often lifted resale value in the past.
Many electric vehicles reach buyers in only a handful of colors - Rivian's wide palette stands out. Hues like Launch Green, Compass Yellow and now Borealis show that the company courts buyers who care about style. Many rivals shrink color choice to speed production - Rivian keeps variety because surveys show rising demand for self expression through vehicle design. By restricting Borealis to the higher grade trims, the firm adds exclusivity, a method other brands use for special editions.
Tri-Motor and Quad-Motor layouts let the R1 send torque to each wheel on demand, which improves control and performance. This trait helps during off road work or on loose surfaces, activities that match Rivian's adventurous clientele. The Borealis finish relies on rare pigments but also a multi stage process that locks in depth and resists fade. Those extra paint steps and inspections raise build time and cost - the color carries a premium and stays scarce.
