Renault enters the camper van market with the Trafic Escapade. Below are the plain details for anyone planning weekend trips.
It is a basic camper van derived from the Renault Trafic panel van. The model targets buyers who want a low cost way to spend weekends away.
The rear bench seat folds flat to create a bed. The two middle seats rotate to face the rear forming a small lounge. A kitchen module installs behind the seats to turn the cargo area into a cooking zone.
The unit holds a single burner gas stove and a drawer. A 1.3-gallon (5 L) water tank feeds a flip out sink with a spray head. The Iconic grade adds a fold down table.
Buyers select between two 2.0-litre four cylinder diesels. The base Blue dCi delivers 148 hp and 258 lb ft of torque - it links to a six speed manual or a nine speed automatic. The optional unit raises output to 168 hp and 280 lb ft of torque - it pairs solely with the nine speed automatic.
Every Escapade has 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear view camera plus driver aids. The cabin includes an 8-inch Easy Link touchscreen, a wireless phone charger and automatic climate control.
Renault will release the van early next year. The firm will publish prices shortly before sales start.
